Higher Up Kicks Off Summer 2025 with a Morning of Inspiration and Impact

On February 26, 2025, Higher Up hosted its Kick-off Breakfast at the Americana Kitchen & Bar, officially launching an exciting new season dedicated to empowering local youth through work opportunities, readiness preparation, and individualized support. The event brought together a dynamic group of employers, educators, and community leaders, all united in their commitment to shaping the next generation of professionals.
Throughout the morning, several employers and students shared their inspiring experiences, highlighting the meaningful impact of the Higher Up program. Employers spoke about the value of mentoring young talent, while students expressed gratitude for the hands-on learning, skill development, and confidence gained through their summer job placements.
“The four young adults that worked with us were incredible … I am very grateful to Higher Up,” said Tara Miller of Plainsboro Preserve, emphasizing the transformative experiences Higher Up provides.
These firsthand accounts emphasize the significance of career exploration opportunities that guide students toward success. Wendy McDade, Executive Director of Higher Up, reflected on the importance of this mission, “recognizing the talent and potential in each of our students is truly inspiring. As we welcome our 2025 class, we are thrilled to open new doors, create more opportunities, and strengthen our partnerships with the local business community.”
Higher Up welcomed Mayor Janice S. Mironov of East Windsor, NJ, representatives from Mercer County’s Summer Youth Jobs Connection, and other community leaders. Their presence underscored the collective effort needed to invest in our young people and expand opportunities. The Summer Youth Jobs Connection, which last year covered the salaries of most Higher Up students, plays a crucial role in youth workforce development and its partnership with Higher Up is invaluable.
Several business partners could not say enough about Higher Up’s impact. Mick Orfe of Mercer County Technical Schools reinforced the shared vision that unites us all: “We all have the same goals. We all have the same mission … The whole community is going to do better.”
The readiness sessions provided by Higher Up have also left a lasting impression. Bill Gittings of Gittings Associates praised the program, stating “the job readiness program is awesome … every person should have to go through this program.”
The event was a powerful reminder of the potential that emerges when a community unites to support its youth. The enthusiasm and generosity of Higher Up’s sponsors, business partners, and attendees inspire the organization to continue broadening its reach.
Looking forward to the Summer 2025 program, Higher Up is excited to enhance its impact by providing even more students with valuable career experiences.
For those who want to be part of this journey—whether as a business partner, volunteer, or sponsor—now is the time to get involved. Together, we help students reach higher.
